As I write this, I begin my 11th year teaching at James Lick High School. I’m quite excited about the new school year. Looking back over the summer, I am astonished. I worked two weeks at Mt. Hope Bible Camp, serving as program director for one of those weeks (that is the toughest camp position around; you are working from morning till late at night). Charlie Denues also worked at Mt. Hope, serving as the camp “medic.” My stint at Mt. Hope was followed by the water ski trip, organized by Kirk Epperly and company. (Charlie spoke at the water ski trip; Roth Rind led worship.) That was followed by two weeks at Camp Victory. A large contingency from Mountain Bible worked at the camp: Charlie and Roth, Preston Rind, Kea Lowen, Michael Gardiner, Sarah Ewing. (Nate Dreesman and Kristen Walker came by on the last day to help with cleanup. Thanks to both of them!) Camp Victory was followed by Rock on the Mount, which was very successful and functioned as a camp reunion for many. I’m grateful to have been a part of it all.
Preparing for the new school year, I am reminded of the great opportunity we possess at the start of each day. To serve God, to know that at the end of the day one has given oneself to the Lord is the greatest joy. A little while ago I preached about the attractiveness of the gospel. It is not keeping oneself busy, or occupying oneself with many projects, but truly meeting God in ones endeavors. Let us consider together how to stir one another to the work of the Lord (Heb. 10:24).
