Dear brother/sister in the Lord,
“The time is coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD. “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the LORD. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” (Jeremiah 31:31-34)
We at Mountain Bible Church have been greatly blessed to learn that God has started to fulfill this promise to a Jewish group in West Africa known as the Teleqan. These nomads settled in the Sahel of eastern Mali in the 10th century and were eventually conquered and forcibly converted to Islam in the 12th century. They managed to hold on to some of their Jewish identity by retaining their language and name. Today, they number about 100,000 people and are known as the forgotten Jews of the Sahel.
In 1993, Daoud became the first Christian Teleqan and is now a Wycliffe Bible translator. In 2007, he translated and read 19 chapters of Genesis, the first words ever written in their language, to his people and these were very warmly received. Without fully realizing it, they have begun a journey back to their true Jewish roots and are hearing about the ultimate promise to the Jews, Jesus the Messiah. Along with the progressive accessibility of God’s Word to the Teleqan, we see increasing openness to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. After more than a thousand years, God has begun to call the lost Jews of the Sahel home. (Go to www.mountainbible.com for a more in-depth telling of this story and the latest updates.)
Would you like to be part of the process of evangelization of the Teleqan? If so, we invite you to become part of the Teleqan Homecoming Team. What is asked of a team member? First and foremost is to pray. We need a prayer support base of Christians who will intercede regularly for them. This work is an ongoing spiritual battle and prayer is the main weapon to help the Teleqan get to where God is calling them to be.
Second, we are raising funds for a water well for the Teleqan. A great need exists for good fresh water to supplement the meager sources. There, water means health, life, and livelihood. We believe this would also be a tangible expression of God’s love for them. Constructing a well would cost about $20,000. Would you please consider contributing $10 or more to this project? (Please write out your check to Mountain Bible Church with a memo for the Teleqan Fund.)
You may share this letter with other committed Christians. Our aim is to establish a Teleqan Homecoming Team of 2,000 Christians. If you are interested in being part of the team, please send an email reply to MBC_Missions_Team@mountainbible.com. You will then receive regular updates on what is happening with this Jewish group. God is doing amazing work to bring the Teleqan home. Would you please prayerfully consider being partners with Him in this endeavor and share in the joy of His provision?
In Christ’s service,
Mountain Bible Church Missions Team
