Please excuse our mess… we are updating the site

September 8th, 2008

Welcome to MountainBible.com — we are updating our site. The sermons and other site functions will be updated soon. Our last host provider’s service was spotty, so we had to switch again (this is the second time in one month). The new host provider seems like an excellent company. We will be up and running and adding new features. — Mark Adams

Rock on the Mount — personal thoughts

August 25th, 2008

I posted the following “notes” on my personal blog, Agabus.com. I post them here too:

1. I performed a full set of mostly original material. Set-list and live recording here.
2. Max Capestany and Matt Masih were great: http://myspace.com/mattmasihmusic — check out Matt Masih’s awesome, self-title CD. Max Capestany’s “Fortune Teller,” performed at Rock on the Mount, is on the disc. Great music, great instruments.
3. JJ Heller and her husband/guitarist are extraordinary. She’s offering a free digital recording at http://jjheller.com. You have got to get this download.
4. Matthew Stewart of Mountain Bible Church performed. Download: Matthew’s set.
5. Pictures of the event are here: Mark Adams’s Flickr page./.

August 15th, 2008

Yeah, it’s summer and all, but I’ve always meant to publish these videos of Charlie Denues jumping the creek at the Moeller’s cabin this winter (2008). You can visit my YouTube page here. Enjoy!

Sitting in a cafe in Sonora, I’ve begun uploading some Camp Victory pictures. Visit my Flickr page — http://flickr.com/photos/agabus/.

Check out our photo galleries here: http://mountainbible.net/?page_id=174&album=2&gallery=7

UPDATE: Here’s some news:

1. Sarah Ewing is a cabin leader, partnering up with Audrey Hansen. Both were campers for the high school week.

2. Charlie Denues is the EMT and games director.

3. Michael Gardiner is a cabin leader.

4. Preston Rind is working in the kitchen and also assisting the program.

And, I’m the chapel speaker for the week.

We had been dealing with smoke from nearby fires, but that’s all gone now. Pray for our camp, as we have more than 50 campers (a record for the last decade).

Having a lot of fun with WordPress

July 21st, 2008

This site runs on WordPress, a blogging script that allows us to run and manage MountainBible.net. I’m really enjoying the functionality of Wordpress. So far, we’ve added a sermons page, polls, and, lately, a photo gallery. I’m still learning how to use the photo gallery, so stay tuned. If you register at this site, you too can one day add content. If you have any suggestions, just email: netadams@gmail.com.

P.S. Both MountainBible.com and MountainBible.net are ours (MountainBible.org is another church!).

Todd Brown preaches

July 20th, 2008

Todd’s sermon is now posted in our archives (see navigation link: “Sermons”). He has quite a remarkable story to tell and tells it well. Our sermons page will feature upcoming and some past sermons as well as some podcasts (possibly).

God is reaching out to the Teleqan people

July 15th, 2008

Dear brother/sister in the Lord,

“The time is coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD.  “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the LORD.  “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” (Jeremiah 31:31-34)

We at Mountain Bible Church have been greatly blessed to learn that God has started to fulfill this promise to a Jewish group in West Africa known as the Teleqan. These nomads settled in the Sahel of eastern Mali in the 10th century and were eventually conquered and forcibly converted to Islam in the 12th century. They managed to hold on to some of their Jewish identity by retaining their language and name. Today, they number about 100,000 people and are known as the forgotten Jews of the Sahel.

In 1993, Daoud became the first Christian Teleqan and is now a Wycliffe Bible translator. In 2007, he translated and read 19 chapters of Genesis, the first words ever written in their language, to his people and these were very warmly received. Without fully realizing it, they have begun a journey back to their true Jewish roots and are hearing about the ultimate promise to the Jews, Jesus the Messiah. Along with the progressive accessibility of God’s Word to the Teleqan, we see increasing openness to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. After more than a thousand years, God has begun to call the lost Jews of the Sahel home. (Go to www.mountainbible.com for a more in-depth telling of this story and the latest updates.)

Would you like to be part of the process of evangelization of the Teleqan? If so, we invite you to become part of the Teleqan Homecoming Team. What is asked of a team member? First and foremost is to pray. We need a prayer support base of Christians who will intercede regularly for them. This work is an ongoing spiritual battle and prayer is the main weapon to help the Teleqan get to where God is calling them to be.

Second, we are raising funds for a water well for the Teleqan. A great need exists for good fresh water to supplement the meager sources. There, water means health, life, and livelihood. We believe this would also be a tangible expression of God’s love for them. Constructing a well would cost about $20,000. Would you please consider contributing $10 or more to this project? (Please write out your check to Mountain Bible Church with a memo for the Teleqan Fund.)

You may share this letter with other committed Christians. Our aim is to establish a Teleqan Homecoming Team of 2,000 Christians. If you are interested in being part of the team, please send an email reply to MBC_Missions_Team@mountainbible.com. You will then receive regular updates on what is happening with this Jewish group. God is doing amazing work to bring the Teleqan home. Would you please prayerfully consider being partners with Him in this endeavor and share in the joy of His provision?

In Christ’s service,

Mountain Bible Church Missions Team

Flea Market set for July 26

July 15th, 2008

Our July 26 Community Flea Market is taking reservations for spaces.  Contact us today to get a spot for just $25 for the day.  All the funds raised are being given to help some poor families in Jamaica on whom we have been focused.

Our annual Flea Market is open to all the public.  Our youth will be putting on a simple BBQ and our church will have a booth with items for sale where 100% of the proceeds will go to our Jamaica Project.  The other booths are our neighbors who join in to make this day a benefit to many.  Please plan to come by between 9 AM and 3 PM to enjoy the unique gathering for a good cause.
